Is Candy AI free? What a free account includes

Opening an account costs nothing. Candy’s Terms of Service set the chat ceiling: a free user may send a maximum of 5 messages to AI characters, and past that the conversation is a Premium feature. Here is what the free account does cover:

• Browsing. You can look through the character categories: Girls, Anime and Guys.
• 5 chat messages. Enough to hear one character’s tone, not enough to build a conversation.
• Shorts episode 1. It plays for anyone, with no account at all.
• Shorts episode 2. Free, but you need the free sign-up first.

Spend those 5 messages deliberately. Open with a specific scenario and a clear tone rather than “hi”, and use the rest to test whether the character’s style suits you. If you’re still curious after the fifth, that is your cue to look at Premium. If the replies bored you, you’ve saved yourself a payment. Shorts is where the free tier is generous: 259 of the 737 public episodes are free, about a third, and one series gives you three free episodes instead of two. From episode 3 on, you pay in tokens. Candy AI free tier vs Premium: feature by feature

This is the free Candy AI account set against a paid one, using Candy’s Terms of Service and its subscription and creator pages.

The pattern is simple. The free Candy AI version is a sampler for chat and the front door to Shorts, while creation, generation and anything that needs tokens sits behind payment. Tokens are the second gate: even a Premium member spends them on images, video, voice notes and locked episodes, and the plan includes 100 a month. For scale: 100 tokens cover eight locked standard Shorts episodes (96 tokens) or three creator episodes (90), and image and video generation come out of the same balance. So a month of Premium is a budget to plan, not an open tab. That is the real difference between free and paid on Candy: free limits what you can do, Premium limits how much of it you can do.

Does Candy AI have a free trial?

Not for Premium. None of the plans on Candy’s subscription page (checked October 6, 2026) is a free trial; the free account is the trial, and its edge is 5 messages. If another page offers a “Candy AI free trial” or a “free trial code”, it didn’t come from Candy’s plan list, and we can’t vouch for it. We cover the code question on our Candy AI promo code page.

The nearest thing to a trial is the first-month price. Candy lists the 1-month plan at $9.99 for the first month (29% off), then $13.99 a month, and every plan carries a “Cancel any time” label. Canceling is a switch in Settings (Unsubscribe), and Premium keeps running until the period you paid for is over; our cancel guide has the steps. Refunds are tight: a request within 24 hours of payment, no more than 20 tokens used, and a card payment (EU and UK buyers have 14 days). Treat the $9.99 month as a cheap test, not a free sample. The checkout also lists weekly billing at $5.60, a smaller first charge for a much shorter period; kept running, it costs about $24 a month.

If you already know you’ll stay, the 12-month plan is $3.99 a month, billed $47.88 once. Candy’s subscription page shows both options side by side.

“Free premium”, mod APKs and cracked accounts: skip them

Search results for free Candy AI Premium fill up with three things: mod APK files, account generators and lists of codes. Candy’s FAQ says there is nothing to install, and Candy is not sold as an App Store or Google Play app; it installs as a web app from the official site. A downloadable “premium APK” is therefore unofficial by definition, unsafe, and against the Terms of Service. Generators usually ask for your login, a survey or payment details. Realistic outcomes are malware, a stolen account or a charge for nothing.

Does Candy AI cost money? The cheapest route in three steps

Yes, once you want more than a sample. Here is the order we’d follow to pay as little as possible:

1. Start free. Create the free account, use your 5 messages on a character you like, and watch episodes 1 and 2 of a few series.
2. Take the $9.99 first month if you want more. It unlocks unlimited text, generation and 100 tokens. Set a reminder before the $13.99 renewal, or switch off renewal straight away.
3. Move to the 12-month plan if you’re staying. At $3.99 a month it is the lowest rate Candy shows, and by the fourth monthly payment ($51.96 in total) the monthly route has already cost more than a whole year ($47.88). Candy’s terms say plan changes take effect at the start of the next billing cycle.

Free stays enough if you only want Shorts teasers and a taste of chat. Pay when you want unlimited chat, 18+ images and videos, the character creator, or episode 3 and beyond.
